POLL: How many colleges will you apply to?

I want my daughter to apply to EVERY school conceivable. Since the money for application fees isn’t an issue, why stop at 10 or 20. 200+ schools seems appropriate for us. Under consideration – large, small, private, Ivy, public, a few Canadian schools, etc.. Here is the breakdown:

Safety: 43
Match: 157
Reach: 27

The guidance councilor is starting to complain – but screw them! That is what they get paid for. Some slots may be taken away from other students, but that is THEIR problem. I refuse to take options away from my daughter, after all she has worked hard for the last three years has the grades, class rank and EC’s to prove it! The real work will be once the acceptance letters start rolling in. We expect that she will be accepted to 200 schools, and we will visit each school and meet with the admissions staff, look them in the eye and ask them to convince us why they should have the privilege having our daughter enroll at their school.

But seriously, my D is only going to apply to 5 schools, one safety, three matches and one reach. Any of them should work out just fine. I’ve read most of the posts and sorry, but I don’t buy the justifications for applying to more than eight schools, UNLESS financial aid scholarships are and integral factor. I think that applying to 10+ schools is conspicuous consumption, and gluttony at its worst.

Finally! I narrowed down my list to 11 colleges (including ED).

If accepted ED, no worries...but if not, have to apply to 10 colleges

superfuzzy just made my day

Wow, I thought Superfuzzy was serious. I freaked out for a second there. lol.

My younger daughter applied this year. She applies only one and gets in early action. Thank goodness otherwise she will need to spend her holidays to clamp out 10 applications. My oldest son did the same many years ago. The other two child in between applied about twelve, each got into about half of them. But among the top six (not in particular order, Harvard, Yale, MIT, Caltech, Princeton, Stanford) they each get in only one. I think you can't be too sure of those things it is better to play safe.

Definitely more than 17 and less than 19.
