polytechnic university???

I just got accepted as a Chemical and Biological Engineering Major at Polytechnic University in Brooklyn, NY.........

Does anyone currently go this school? How is it?

The whole purpose of this post is to get reviews on the school...........Although it was rated "Best Northeastern" for engineering, some sights have really negative reviews about it................

Just wanted to see what you guys think....

PolyTech is a great school and is soon merging with NYU.

It's not bad - as long as you do well you're set.

Anybody knows more details about this U? I have applied for a master’s program in Electrical Engineering. I am an international student from Hong Kong. Is it easy to find a job in NYC or California after graduation from Poly? And what is the percentage?
Thank you in advance!

@ pb

Poly has a extensive alumni network. that said, nyc does not have a tremendous demand for ee's. what type of work/compnay/industry are you interested in.

@avik:

Will you reside on "campus" or commute? what do you plan on doing with your BS Chemical and Biological Engineering?

well, i will commute, since I live very close to the school (I live in Jersey City.....a town in NJ right next to NYC).....

With a BS in Chemical and Biological, I have a higher variety of options for choosing jobs.....because technically.....this is a chemical engineering curriculum, combined with biological.....

I am not sure of "exactly" the nature of work I am planning to do with this degree, as I do not have much experience in the field of engineering to know what type of job I would prefer to pursue........

I would like to work in an IT company, or the IT department of other industries, such as banking, would be fine. And I prefer California to NYC, since the climate of Cal is similar to that of Hong Kong. Is it easy for a Poly student majoring in EE to find a job in Cal? You know for an international student, one extra problem should be considered is getting a H1B work visa.

@pb Polytech has a good reputation in the NYC area and has a extensive alumni in the area. I do not think that its national US reputation is as good. That is, if you want California then you should consider a more recognized National program in IT such as Carnegie Mellon, MIT, etc. The other approach to California is to attend a CA school such as UCLA, Berkely, etc.

That said, NYC is a center of Finance in the US not California. Many banks and investment banks, hedge funds are located in the NYC area.

Of course many banks recruit in CA, remember that NYC firms tend to hire more people locally.

@avik:

Since you are commuting from JC then Polytech is a solid choice in ChemE. Your other options in the area are Manhattan College, Stevens, NJIT, CCNY.
I think that negative comments might be for the campus (lack of), neighborhood (not so great) , many commuters (non-issue. Academically, Poly is solid so no issues there. That is, you will get a job .

I go to polytech, starting my 2nd semester on tuesday. I'm currently EE. Did you get accepted to the honor's college? Any questions ask?

Don't you apply to the Honors College after your Freshman year???

Or can you enter Honors College as a Freshman???

hey i am going to start mt second semester on tuesday.

Summary of Polytech::

Math will kill you if dont work
Social life non existent
Greeeeeeeeeeeeeeat job placement
NYU, what more can i say?

Its better than CUNY.

Math aint that hard come on..Also, because u have no social life, does not mean it doesn't exist, yeah I know sucks for you. Actually we have lots of clubs.

Knicks? who r u man? which poly are u talking about? the one with one broken pool table and an unorganized CS department? ????

Exactly, its hard aint it when all you do is play pool and CS, hahahaha, You can find friends in the Regna Lounge?

I personally believe EE @ polytechnic is not that great,especially for job hunting. And NYC is not a great place for electrical engineers. California and Texas are much better.

^^ you kidding me? My friends (2 of them, as i posted somewhere else as well) got extraordinary jobs in their last semester. Polytech is known for telecommunication majors. But my friends were majoring in power.

Knicks, i dont play pool allot now, but i am shifting towards basketball. Regna? all of them are on academic probabtion.

btw, whats ur name

whats ur name?, wait I think I know yours already, lol,I think I remember your name greenvision from the first day. Aren't you that kid from either Pakistan or Bangeldash who just came here, it doesnt matter anyway. Poly isnt as bad as you all say and the math is bad if you start taking linear algebra, etc, but for right now calc II isn't to bad

yeah your right, but compared to what students say, its pretty hard for them. They keep changing books so that ppl dont use solution manuals. pretty lame. Now i didnt come from pakistan, i was born in america. but at the time i had just arrived. :) If your major is ee, i definitely know you.
