Congratulations to everyone accepted. Would you mind sharing some stats/strengths/unique qualities for the (admittedly, limited) benefit of future candidates and those currently waitlisted?

What topics are people writing about? Did you have a lot of ECs? My had similar stats.

I attended 20+ webinars, spoke with the admissions officers, did an interview, and much more to learn about Pomona. I feel like what they really want in an applicant is a sense of individuality and purpose. Who are you? And why do you do what you do? Of course this is subjective, but take that advice as you will  also remember that Pomona is SMALLā€”getting in, at a certain point, is like a lottery. There are other amazing schools out there

pomona doesnt waitlist very many people, you should be proud!! that being said, not many people decline admission to pomona, as they often apply with it in mind as their top choice. apparently they let in less than 10 kids off it each year or something? either way, best of luck getting off the waitlist!

Donā€™t forget to join the FB group. An ED 2 here excited to meet you all.

Thank you for your response about the waitlist. Pomona is a fantastic spot but and very different from second choice of UCLA

Thank you so much for responding. Wishing you all the best on your Pomona journey!!!

Does anyone know if Pomona sends an acceptance packet/letter in the mail?

They didnā€™t for ED1ā€¦would have been a nice touch.

Maybe they will send them out to everyone now?. Very unusual admissionā€™s cycle, around the time ED1 decisions were released the pandemic was raging in LA county. ā€¦

My son from Louisiana got in (valedictorian, NMF, president of Model UN, 36 on ACT, has worked for 3 years as busboy/waiter), but we didnā€™t get a financial aid package. They said lacking a form, which kind of stinks b/c we know it got turned in. Nice that he got in b/c waitlisted for his favorite school the same day. Now we are waiting until 4/6 to see if he has more choices in order to decide. Heā€™s all about whoever makes him the best deal.

They didnā€™t offer any remedies, like sending in quickly whatever is missing? While they didnā€™t give us much money, during the ED1 round they were extremely accommodating - they gave us an opportunity to send anything that may change their decision, pretty much until the time we had to take or reject their offer. If you want to pursue it, grab the phone on Monday, first thing in the morning!

He is going to call/email Monday. Friday was Cesar Chavez day in California! Although he kind of applied to Pomona with a ā€œWhy not?ā€ attitude, heā€™s a little more intrigued by the school now. Hopefully the aid will make it feasible, but from what we read, the school does a good job. He got a fabulous package from Carleton but really crummy from Swarthmore (we canā€™t figure that out).

From our own experience and several exchanges with other parents, Pomona gives a lot of money when a family truly canā€™t afford it but doesnā€™t much sympathy to middle-class parents somewhat above the median who may not have enough money due to their life choices, like that boat or second home instead of 529. Or even when they live in an expensive zip code. But you know your numbers from their NPC, right? Good luck!

congratulations! Do you mind to share which continent are you coming from? Do you have any special background?

Thanks

Iā€™m from Colombia. No special background, just a competitive private school on the AP system and I graduated with both my Colombian and U.S High School Diploma. I think it was my activities that really did it for me. Iā€™m heavily involved in making education accessible across Colombia through software development. I also volunteer and have created/led many groups and organizations. I also talked about being gay in Colombia on my common app essay through an extended metaphor based on an object.
