Pomona ED Acceptees

An upward trend is definitely considered so I would not worry too much about freshman grades, especially if everything else is in place. Pomona truly looks at the total picture. Good luck!!

That's great news. Thank you so much! GL to the rest of you!

I got in ED 2.
I'm from a good public school in the northeast.

I'm from a good public school In San Francisco that's a feeder for the likes of CAL, not a good thing for someone like me who actually values a good nights rest not spent studying

SATS: 670 W, 680 CR, 630M
SAT 2: 640 American History, 750 Literature, 630 Math 1
My school (thankfully) doesn't rank
GPA: accumulative 3.58, with my grades slowly but steadily rising from freshman year (started at around a 2.9) I did get C's in both French and Math once or twice (not my strong subjects)

EC:
I have in four years done everything one could possibly do for the school theater productions (acting, set design, running the show from back stage, running the show from the booth, poster design, and in a week I'll be performing in the pit orchestra)

The thing that got me in to Pomona though is my film work - I, with my good friend, have created a small film company and besides working for money, I've had my films win a couple of awards in various festivals.

Essays: I knew my strong point and I stuck with it - Film film film - My essays were a labor of love - because I knew it would take some very strong writing to get me in. My supplement essay was about how I like to drive and look at pretty scenery.

Recs: Strong - Two key things were:
1) Each rec was different, I told each teacher a lot about me and then asked them to not mention it at all, I wanted only the part of my they knew to get written about. This avoided multiple letters all saying the same thing.
2) I submitted four letters plus counselor rec, more than they ask for, because five letters is what I felt it took to cover all the important aspects of me.

On campus Interview: Nothing notable - pulled a cheap shot and asked "what wouldn't I like about Pomona" at the end of it.. my poor Senior couldn't come up with anything that I wouldn't like, and i cant help but wonder if it helped me...

I applied to Pomona as a complete shot in the dark reach - and somehow got in... I guess luck played a big role, as I know some people far more qualified than me who were straight up denied - But I guess my words of wisdom are these: there's still hope
