Pomona College Replaces Loans with Scholarships, Eliminates Student Debt

Pomona College, one of the nation?s premier liberal arts colleges, will eliminate loans in financial aid packages and replace those amounts with scholarships, effective 2008-09. The change will apply to both current and future students and was approved by the College?s Board of Trustees on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007.

Excellent decision on Pomona's part, although I think they probably had no choice - with Princeton, Davidson, and recently Williams and Amherst eliminating loans, the other elite high-endowment schools are starting to look "cheap" if they don't jump on the bandwagon. Nonetheless, an excellent decision which will only increase Pomona's attractiveness.

HAHA YES
If I werent already applying, i'd definetely apply here
do you guys know any other colleges that are also doing this?

Claremont Mckenna should join in.

I read the article, and one thing i noticed was that it didnt say the income needed to qualify. Is it no max then?

Yea..McKenna really should give scholarships or they should combine endowments or something.

No, believe me, combining endowments with CMC would be a very very bad idea.

And donjuan, the move was to eliminate loans from financial aid packages for ALL financial aid recipients. There is no income needed to qualify for no loans. At least that's how I understood it from the press release.
