Have been accepted at multiple IVIES, but strongly considering POMONA.Has anyone at P had this decision and how did you decide? Any regrets and do you think you will be limited when applying to grad school or jobs? THANKS

Which environment is best for you? In regards to grad school admissions, I don't believe you can go wrong either way. It's much more about whether or not you want a small liberal-arts education.

Pomona is awesome!

A Wall Street Journal article in 2003 http://www.wsjclassroomedition.com/college/feederschools.htm ranked Pomona 13th for placing students at top grad schools. They comment that small LACs prepare students better - more one-on-one attention. My D has been accepted and will probably attend this year.

Also, Pomona 2011 acceptance stats here http://www.tsl.pomona.edu/index.php?article=2412 are pretty awesome:

25% valedictorians
90% in top 10% of class
Average SAT 740M, 750R, 740CR
15.8% Acceptance rate, down from 19%, lowest of any LAC, would be ranked #8 Top National University in 2007 USNWR ranking.

The comparison is apples vs oranges. The liberal arts college is different than the university. Go with your gut.

Pomona enjoys a fine reputation with professional schools and graduate schools admission folks. I wouldn't let that "reputation" be the deciding factor.

Not to nitpick, but the WSJ article on feeder schools (link two posts above) deals with professional (law, business, medical) schools, not graduate schools. I think the distinction is worth making. Graduate school admissions depend more on specific research interests, achievements, and faculty recommendations. I think professional schools look more at grades, standardized test scores, and also I think more on the schools "reputation". So, I think the feeder school article above is perhaps a bit more interesting because of its focus on the professional schools.

By way of background, wife and I were both Pomona undergrads. I was Yale Med, she was Yale Ph.D..
