I'm a rising Sophomore at Boston University with a 3.23 GPA.
B+: Intro to Philosophy, Biology I, Chemistry II, Honors Calculus, Honors Multivariable, Writing 100, Developmental Psychology
B: Chemistry I, Biology II

I always stand between the B+/A- range and the constant C+ class average in all my classes really brings me down. I understand that this is no where competitive for medical schools but I really am not a bad student. At my competitive HS, I was an outstanding student with a fair chance of getting into an Ivy but that didn't end up well. With the constant bad grades in my "safety" college, I feel as though I'm actually stupid.

Should I transfer out of BU to a local city college (CUNY)? People who I did better than at in HS are getting 3.7 gpas at other colleges and I really don't know what to do anymore.

Are they getting 3.7 in pre-med pre-reqs? Or are they getting 3.7 in just any ole classes? There are a lot of majors that it can be rather easy to get a 3.7 in.

If these people aren’t taking Gen Chem, Bio (for majors), etc, then their GPAs aren’t comparable.

I know that you say that you went to a competitive high school, but high school isn’t college…and high school isn’t pre-med pre-reqs…those classes separate “the men from the boys” (or women from the girls…lol).

Were you waiting til the night before tests to really study?

You have 2 years to get your gpa up to a 3.5. IMO BU has a lot of grade deflation. One of my friends goes there, and he has a 3.5 gpa but managed to score a 172 on the LSAT. If thats the case OP, then if you can get your gpa upto a 3.5 and score a 30+ on the mcat, you should be fine for most medical schools (except the most selective ones).

Caveat - a 2130 SAT. Not the best but my EC’s/GPA were better. And partially, I’m trying hard but I can definitely push my self harder in some classes.

Mom2collegekids - They are getting 3.7 in premed prereqs but in state/city colleges. Even though my average is low, most of the premed kids I’ve spoken to at BU avg much lower in premed prereqs. One of my friends went to ISEF 2x and the other got to transfer into Cornell, both of whom have done worse than me in most premed prereqs.

I study a few days (~3) before the exams.

I think I can manage getting a 3.5 gpa if I take regular math classes (my strong suit) instead of honors. But is a 3.5 average at BU going to really stand up against a 3.8 average at a city college?
