Rice doens't really give any specifics about what they want to see in a portfolio. My DD has been taken Arch in her HS for the last four years. So, I wonder if it would be recommended that she includes some pics of the works she has done in her arch class?
Thanks in advance!

Maybe. If it's good work, she should include it. Although a lot of people here say no CAD, so maybe no CAD, and make sure you guys have good drawings and fine arts non-architectural stuff too. A portfolio to architecture can be a lot of different things.

ednamillay, thanks! yes my DD has drawings that I really like, but of course, she's my D ;)
fine arts? could you be more specific about it? Thank you.

Work that demonstrates an understanding of things like perspective, proportion, depth, scale, shading, shadows, contrast, color etc... and ANYTHING that indicates creativity.

No CAD.

4trees, thanks for the detail explanation, and I'll make sure D doens't include any CAD in her portfolio.

Do you guys/gals know if they like/accept photography in portfolios?

I can't speak for Rice, but I met and spoke at length to an arch student at Syracuse whose admissions portfolio consisted of only photography. He was a junior at that time and a copy of it was still proudly displayed at his studio station. Also there was a student at some other school, can't recall where, who told me her portfolio was three quarters photography.

That said, I suggest you call the arch dept at Rice tomorrow and ask!

Thanks trees.

I'm not interested in Rice. I'm looking at U. of Michigan Ann Arbor.
