Poshmark, 2021

I would have posted this on the old thread, but it was closed. I’ve listed a couple of items and got my first sale.
My first buyer bundled two items, paid one shipping fee, but if I want to ship them pretty (two XL men’s button down shirts) then they won’t fit in the size package paid for by the buyer. How does it normally work? Am I supposed to compact them as much as possible to avoid paying extra shipping, an unplanned expense, or am I supposed to ship them packaged prettily in a medium flat rate box and absorb the extra postage?

I have bought things from Poshmark and some buy and sell trade boards on Facebook.

If it’s a larger item, they will stuff the item in a plastic bag and get all the air out of the bag so that it’s as small as it can be.

I might put on the outside of the shipping bag to open carefully. I don’t think most people do that, but I know the drill and do not open the package with scissors.

One shipping price because they bundled? I’ve never done that, is there a FAQ on Poshmark for that situation. If they bought 2 sweatshirts for instance, they wouldn’t fit in one small flat rate bag?

Does it weigh more than 5 lbs? If so, then you might have to pay extra shipping. Let me check for you. You need to avoid that if at all possible. @somemom , will they fit in the box if you don’t pack pretty? If so, don’t do that. Pack in tissue is fine. I put my items in plastic poly bags from Amazon and slap an Avery label on it with my own Thank you. I use the post office boxes for free.

Also, for most light weight items, I just put in my poly bag, then mail in the post offices mailer, not box. I just fold over the flap more so it won’t move around. Saves on tape using the boxes. I’m trying to turn my into a little business from a hobby, so try to cut down on expenses wherever I can.

It won’t be over 5#, but in all my surfing of Poshmark and Reddit, I’ve yet to find clarity as to whether the Poshmark label covers any package of any size up to 5# or if it covers the first $7.790 as paid.

I’ve definitely ended up upside down on eBay shipping costs so am just trying to figure this out.

I believe the label covers any size package as long as it doesn’t weigh more than 5lb. In total.

I guess you’re supposed to just know that :relaxed: But I wanted to confirm the right way to do this before standing in line at USPS.

Check to see if your post office has those machines where you can scan your own stuff. We just got them about 3 months ago and I love them. I’m in and out with my receipt.

Years ago when my kids were in college, I bought a postal scale.

I print off my labels at home, I know Poshmark is different. But I appreciate the scale all the time.

It finally broke and I got a new one off Amazon

My post office has a drop off door just for already labeled packages.

Ours has a drop off counter, so I did that. Thanks for your help.

So does mine, it I like to get a receipt. There was one instance when my package never arrived and I had proof I actually sent it. I would say it’s necessary around the holidays, that’s when it happens most.

Great point!

I’d like to learn a bit more about Poshmark. I’m a longtime customer of The Real Real and just started looking at Poshmark. Most of my TRR purchases are jewelry and luxury bags so of course I checked out my favorite bag brands on Poshmark. Here’s what I don’t understand - 11 of the first 12 listings are for bags that are NWT, include dust bag, etc and are priced from $250-$450. These are bags that cost at least $2500 in the store so I have to assume these are fakes. And I read that only purchases over $500 are authenticated. So how does Poshmark police the site for counterfeit goods? Should shoppers flag the listing as suspicious and will Poshmark investigate?

I did buy a pair of like-new Rothy’s on the site which I have received and am happy with. And then I read about how many counterfeit Rothy’s are mixed in and saw that some sellers offer their own authentication services. I’m not worried about the shoes I bought because I already own a dozen pair of Rothy’s I bought direct from the company so I’m confident I can assess the quality. But I do feel very naive because I wasn’t expecting there to be replicas of shoes that aren’t even in the luxury category.

I suppose my question is how do you navigate the authenticity issue when using this site?

There are a lot of counterfeit goods on Poshmark and anything your purchase under $500 is a challenge to get authenticated. You could always ask for a copy of the original purchase receipt or as Poshmark to authenticate at tour expense. With TRR / 1st Dibs / Mercari etc., authenticity is guaranteed (Mercari authenticates for a $5 fee)

I bought a fake Gucci belt thinking it was real. I’m such a sucker and should have known better being a seller myself. Luckily, I had actually gone to Saks the day before to see one in person. The fake was a great fake and if I hadn’t seen a real one, I wouldn’t have known. But I starting measuring the buckle, and hole width, etc. got on the Gucci website and copied the stats and took pictures of the fake’s measurements. PM reimbursed me. DH told me to quit fooling around and go buy one, which I did. It was my birthday and anniversary and thought why not! I love that belt and wore it every chance I got last winter.

I have a ton of stuff I would like to sell on Poshmark. The elevator in my building (60 steps but who’s counting?) has been out for 10 weeks, being replaced. As soon as it’s running again and I can live a normal life and go to the post office regularly, I’d like to start. Any tips?

Everyone sells different stuff and expects different profits. But as far as getting your stuff to move:

  1. Take good pictures with a whiter background. I use a backdrop.
  2. For your titles, use good search engine words. “Brand, color, adjectives, item, size”. Go look at things for sake on Poshmark and get an idea how people describe their stuff.
  3. Share your closet multiple times a day.
  4. Just because it’s new with tags, doesn’t mean it will sell.
  5. Research your item on Poshmark to see what it’s selling for currently and then filter to sold to see what it sold for. I do this before I even buy it, if I can’t return it. Don’t snip your Goodwill tags until you check to make sure no flaws.
  6. Buy a body form if you can even better a ring light.
  7. Join Poshmark groups on FB. Tons of experience there, also good you tube videos.
    It’s all a learning experience.

Thank you, @conmama. Very helpful. Still no elevator but it won’t be forever!

@oldmom4896 get a fitbit, run those steps, empty your closets and get in shape
