I am a former dual-sport athlete, and I was getting recruited Princeton for basketball. But, during the summer of my junior year, I got into a motorcycle accident. I spent all of my senior year rehabbing just to go to prep in hopes of regaining my recruitment. Long story short, my doctor told me to avoid heavy contact sports like football, the thing that got me in the door at those school, and try and get into rowing. I am currently taking a gap year to work on my ECs and rowing. Stats: GPA: 4.51 ACT: 32 Height: 6’4" Weight: 220 2k Erg: 6:07 6k Erg: ???
Princeton doesn’t give Athletic scholarships, but they meet 100% of need, so regardless of the sport, if they really liked you as a student athlete, you should reach out to the rowing coach. Hope your rehab is going well- that must have been horrible for you.
Most serious crew clubs have nice connections with college coaches. What does your coach say?
Great stats! No scholarships for Ivies…only need based aid.
I am currently affiliated with St. Andrews Rowing Club, but as far as recruitment is concerned, I’ve never been on the water. As far as my erg time is concerned, my coach said mine is more than competitive
And also, thank you guys so much for your feedback!
Your erg time is competitive but some coaches may care about technique, how well you work with a team, and that fundamental question of how much you love rowing! TherE is a long Crew recruiting thread on this forum. Check it out. At several schools I can think of, you would be the dream walk on, but probably be a risky recruit. But it sounds like you’re addressing that now with your club. Good luck!
Thanks, again! I’ll need all the luck I can get.
Men’s rowing is not an NCAA sport so any scholarships granted are up to the schools. The Ivies and D3 do not award scholarships. Many of the other schools sponsors for the teams
Try Cal, Wash State, and UCLA. As others said men’s rowing is not a NCAA sport so the scholarships are not there, but they can help partially.
Do all Pac-12 schools have a team?
^^^^you need to look at each individually. Many have women’s crew and then men’s is club. Some have men’s crew with the heavy hitters being Washington and Cal.
