What is an ideal amount of AP’s to get into a good college like NYU or baruch? Would taking algebra and earth science in middle school be ideal for those schools?

In general, high school students in the US are under way too much pressure and stress. If you are still in middle school then apparently this stress is starting even earlier.

There are a very large number of very good universities in the US, and more outside the US. Pay attention in class, keep ahead in your homework, seek out help when you need it, and you will be fine.

With regard to specific classes, at this point I would suggest that you take what you are interested in and don’t worry about college applications. With respect to algebra in particular and math in general, take classes that you can do well in. Math is an area where what you learn today is very much dependent upon what you learned last week and last month and last year and the year before. As such, you don’t want to fall behind. Math is also an area where if a student does fall behind then seeking out extra help is particularly important.

Good luck. Have some fun, and try to not to worry about all of this too much.

I’m going into my junior year next year and would like to go to either NYU or Baruch… but I feel that nyu is too difficult to get into being that I took Algebra and es in high school. Now does that lessen my chances? You could be honest

“Now does that lessen my chances”

I don’t think that it is a problem.

What is your GPA? NYU has a reputation for being expensive. Do you know what you can afford and have you run the NPC on it?

It is still early to be worried about this stuff. However, I might have been confused by your talking about middle school in the original post and now saying that you are a high school sophomore, soon to be junior.

One of my daughters knows someone who didn’t take any AP classes at all in high school and is currently a freshman at Dartmouth College. Grades and stellar references and strong SAT/ACT scores and other aspects of the application can go a long way.

If you are a strong student I would recommend a few APs partly because universities do care about the rigor of your schedule, and partly so that you show up at university with at least a few credits. For example, some time in four years of university you might end up with a bad professor in a difficult class, and have to drop it. If you are already ahead in your credits then you can do so without falling behind. Both of my daughters have however found summer classes in university that they wanted to take, which is another way to get ahead in credits.

What is NPC? NYU is affordable and my gpa is a 4.0… this year is my 1st ap class and next year I am taking 2 (unless I decide to take another) …

NPC = net price calculator. Most schools have them on their websites.

Unweighted or weighted GPA? ACT/SAT scores?

Both is a 4.0
I take my sat and act next year but I already started studying

How’s that?
