Possible CSE Alternatives: UWB CSS or UW INFO?

Oh it’s grown to two pages lol. Actually it turns out I did meet ACMS’ requirements.

So far I’m applying to UWS CSE, UWS Informatics, and UWB CSS. Do you think guys it’ll be necessary for me to apply for a fourth major (which may be ACMS unless I find some other major)? My current cumulative GPA is a 3.68.

3.68? Good god. Why haven’t they accepted you yet?

I’m applying to CSE and CSS as well, but I only have a 3.58. I honestly think, barring CSE, UWB would be the superior option, since at least it offers courses that would help you find a good CS-related job on graduation.

I wish I’d written a better 2nd option on my application. I put pre-engineering because I didn’t want to submit another application aside from the CSE one. Heh. I thought about putting ACMS though. I did apply at UWB and got accepted. Of course I’m hoping to get in at UW Seattle.

So guys, what are your back-up plans? All the CSE posts are very discouraging so far. Hah.

I applied to UW Seattle’s Computer Science, Informatics, Human Centered Design and Engineering, and UW Bothell’s Computing and Software Systems. I went to Bothell for freshman year, and I transferred to Seattle for my sophomore year. I had a good experience at Bothell, but I like Seattle better so I’m really hoping that I can get into CS. But if not, I’m fine with returning to Bothell for their CSS program since it’ll be more relevant than Informatics.

I got accepted at Bothell, but I really would like to go to Seattle. I didn’t even apply anywhere else aside from CSE, since I’'m pretty set on taking CS. If I don’t get in this fall, I’ll try again in the spring. :|

For all who wish to know, admission decisions to Seattle’s CSE program will be out by July 20th at the latest.

Thanks MasterKuni. I guess another 2 weeks of waiting isn’t too bad. Although I’m hoping it comes out sooner.

Man, it’s like they just turn you away during advising when you don’t have perfect stats.

did you go to advising today?

Yep. It’s like going to an informatics/acms/hcde advising. :p

LOL. Any word on decisions coming out soon??

Well, adviser said in a couple of days or Monday, but definitely before August 1. But I’m not even looking forward to it anymore. I basically spent the entire time hearing about other options.

The advisors will always talk about other options so dont be discouraged. Its so tough to get in so its important for all applicants, strong or not, to have backups. And if this is only your first time applying, you can always keep applying if CSE is what you really want.

Welp. Just got my rejection letter. Probably why adviser was pushing me to consider other options.

My sincerest condolences to nbr and other undoubtedly qualified applicants, as I just got my rejection letter too.

So what’s your plan now? I just got admitted as a transfer so going somewhere else is not an option for me. This sort of negates my happiness towards getting admitted as a presci. Haha

I applied to UW Bothell and got in, but I’m pretty sure I don’t want to go there. I also don’t really want to study anything other than CS, and am certainly not interested in wasting more time studying pre-reqs at UW Seattle.

I’m currently working an internship with a local company and I’m meeting some really great people there in addition to getting experience with software development. When I’m done with this summer stint, one of my current co-workers and I are going to co-develop and launch a mobile app, tap some of our industry connections to kickstart its success, then split the profits 50-50. I’m thinking my best option is to drop out for the time being and pursue this until I can either afford to go to a better school or get into UW CSE.

Do you just file a leave of absence or whatever it is? Kind of rough that you have all these ECs and still got rejected. How are your grades? Coz I honestly think they base their decisions on that. That was pretty much all the adviser talked about. And informatics. Haha

I have a 3.6 cumulative and got a 3.77 and 3.89 my previous two quarters. I’ve gotten mostly A’s, except in the physics series (which were the most miserable courses I’ve taken in my life). I did alright in the Calc series, but 4.0’d 307 and 308. Recently, I’ve just been sick of getting high A’s in everything, and yet still not getting anywhere academically.
