Possible merit scholarships?

Does your dd’s guidance counselor have a lot of experience with having students awarded one of those 2 scholarships? I ask b/c “being a fit” and actually being awarded are 2 statements that are not easily interchanged. Knowing the extreme competitiveness of Stamps and the qualifications of awardees, I googled UF’s award winners to see how many Lombardi and Stamps are awarded each yr at UF. According to this site,
http://www.honors.ufl.edu/alumni/alumni-profiles/lombardi-stamps-alumni-bios/#d.en.329234 it looks like a total of 11. Unless your dd has some EC that makes her stand out above all other students, getting awarded 1 of 11 scholarships at UF meets the definition of extremely competitive. (Kids getting admitted to Stanford don’t automatically get invited to interviews for Stamps at schools ranked significantly lower than UF.)

Or are you saying that bc your guidance counselor thinks she is a fit for Stamps that UVA or UNC in general might be better fit schools vs being matches in terms of her being competitive for their top scholarships? (The former…that is student dependent based on what they are looking for; the latter…not a realistic position for any student bc the scholarships are so extremely competitive.)
