Applied for a SURF at the Caltech astronomy Dept and the professor told me that he would like me to join his lab for the summer. Spent a week working on a proposal and made several revisions before submitting to SFP. I am a non-Caltech student from a random EU university. What are the chances SFP rejects me although my mentor has funding for me and wants me?
The faculty mentor only provides half of the funding. The other half comes from SFP. If your proposal has the support of your mentor, your chance of approval should be very good.
If the funding is entirely from your mentor (whether Caltech or JPL), you’d be fine.
