I graduated last year with a BA in Psychology. I attended two 4 year schools and my overall GPA is a 2.7. My GPA at the school I graduated from was a 3.2, but I did it online and the school is for-profit. I don't really have any work experience and my online teachers don't know me, so virtually no references.

Any chance I can get into a decent school? I'm interested in a master's degree in either Psychology (clinical, I/O, counseling, and some others), Human Resources, or Higher Education Administration. Most master's program require a GPA of at least 3.0.

I've considered doing my masters online as well, but not sure if that's a good idea.

A degree awarded from a for-profit university is almost certainly going to be heavily scrutinized, and a sub-3.5 gps from one is an even greater barrier. Masters programs have a wide range of acceptance rates and criteria, so there’s probably at least one that would take you, but I doubt it’s a program you’d want to attend. If no one else has advice that’s more specific to your field, I’d suggest taking a few years to work in the field, network and cultivate strong LORs and supporters and get into a good program later.

I should also note that if your degree came from a non-accredited university, it may be almost worthless for graduate programs.

With a 2.7 and no strong references, you should consider getting some work experience. Also note that an MA in clinical psychology will generally not license you to practice (although an MA in mental health counseling would).

Did the online college have regional accreditation?
