It seems getting an MBA requires work experience in the industry, which is hard to get into as an engineer. How do I go about landing a position that would qualify mefor something like HBS when I dont have much business experience to get hired for the job out of my undergraduate degree? Do I just have to try and apply for those business positions anyways and compete against the kids who are majorng in business/finance/etc

No, find jobs with your engineering degree. The dean of my college told me that top business school wants engineers who have engineering experiences. So far, that is my plan.
