Post your January SAT scores

Composite this time: 2150
Composite combining all best scores: 2200

I'm considering retaking it for a third time. My CR/W scores are 800/780, which I'm satisfied with, but I have GOT to get my math score up.

Additionally, I was very, very surprised--last time I got a 12 on a not very good essay, and this time I got a 10 on what I felt was a very good essay.

Oh, College Board.

Jegan!

I have the same scores as you (only the composites, as I would KILL for a 800 in CR).

2150/2200 haha

Oh, same with your essays, but reversed.

But damnnnnnn 800 in CR!
CONGRATS!

Math: 800 (thank god for the experimental section)
Writing: 730 (12 essay) Any good tips for the MC
CR: 690 (Expected a lot higher but not bad for first try)

Math:800
CR:800
Writing:750(8 essay(***?!) and 78 MC)

does anyone know if colleges combine best essay scores and best MC scores? I got a 750 the other time I took the SAT too...but it was an 11 essay with a 72 MC.

For Stewie314

Math: 800
Writing: 770
CR: 730

First try, will probably take again.

Has there ever been a case, where the scores on their website were different from the scores on the score report? I mean I find it hard to believe that so many of us got 8's on our essays, and some really bad overall writing scores. I always thought writing was my best section, and my practice tests reflected that, yet it was my worst section. Any chance CB made a mistake?
This was my first time taking it, and I know that a lot of people retake, but I still have this negative feeling about retaking it. Is it really true that colleges dont care if you take it 2-3 times? I need some reassurance here!!!
Also, how difficult is it to improve? Ive taken about 4 practice tests and they were all in the 1950-2050 range, this jan sat was also in that range. It doesnt seem like Im able to get 2100+. Is it impossible for me to obtain that 2100+?, cause it sure seems like it...
If I do retake, Im most likely going to register for the April sat, is this a good decision?
P.S. I still cant believe how horribly I did on the writing section, I felt like I only got 2-3 questions wrong and my essay was at least a 9-10. ( I got a 8)

jegan3 I know how you feel. Their essay graders must've been smoking crack. I was totally out of it last time I took the test and this time I was on fiyah!! yet...my essay score is 3 pts lower and took away my 24's =(

btw... I'm trying to figure out how they calculate overall writing scores. From my two scores and a friend's I got this: start with 830. For every point below 80 on MC, subtract 10. For every two points below 12 subtract 30. Anyone care to tweak it? I didn't have any odd essay scores to work with so idk how they would factor in. I would assume -10 (-15 and then round up). I'm pretty sure that this works or is at least close. Or maybe Collegeboard is just arbitrary and hates us.

Odin, to improve ur Essay, its very very simple. Do the 5 paragraph thing. Have a few standard structures in your head - even opening and closing sentences for paragraphs, and have an idea of a solid few sentence structures for the intro and the conclusion. Follow up the Intro with 1 example from history, 1 from literature, and 1 from personal experience. Write a conclusion with 3 sentences at least, with the middle sentence referring to all three aspects you dealt with. Fill up minimum 1 and 3/4 pages and with all this, you'll get a minimum 10.

Does anyone have any ideas how to improve CR to 750+? I got a 690 on the CR section and felt really confident after the test. I knew all the vocab words and thought I'd only missed one or two....I'm in AP Lit, and i read a lot of newsmagazines and classics.

Work hard in AP Lit. If you do well on the AP Lit multiple choice sections, you will get a solid score on the SAT CR section. Do a practice CR section a day, and by May or June you can get 750+ hopefully

I got an 800 on the CR. I would say READ CAREFULLY. It seems like such a basic thing but it's so important. On practice tests when I just skimmed the material, I always did substantially worse. Read the entire text before you even look at any of the questions. And, even more importantly, READ EVERY ANSWER CHOICE. There's usually a correct answer and then one that seems correct but actually isn't. Don't be afraid to really take every single minute they give you. Go back over everything, even the ones you're sure of. It's so easy to make stupid mistakes.

Those are just test-taking tips. As far as improving your comprehension/etc. of the material, I don't really know, lol.

CR: 750 (about what I expected)
M: 740 (lower than what I expected...b/c of stupid mistakes)
W: 800 (what I expected...not to be conceited or anything. Writing's just my strong point)

Total: 2290...yay! I don't know if I want to retake it, just to get above 2300...

i agree with everyone who's expressed some dissappointment/confusion about the essay. my SAT tutor (for CR and essay) was/is (not sure which) an actual SAT essay grader.....she always gave me 5s and 6s. on the real test i only got a 9. and on top of that, i usually think the writing section is really easy, and i got an 80 on the psats, but only a 710 (71 MC) on the real test. it's sort of irritating because some of the sentences are just SO BAD that it's almost impossible to correct them.
arrg. whatever though----it's just a test

and one more thing:
730 CR
760 M
710 W
2200 total

i'm looking at high level schools like Stanford, Duke, Princeton, etc. and i'm thinking i should take it again at the end of the year just to maybe nudge my writing score up a bit. what do people think???

jsullivan --

I'm in much the same boat as you are with a 2200 composite, although my individual test scores are different, and looking at the same kind of schools. I'm planning on studying hardcore for the math and taking it once more to see if I can bump it up to a 2300.

we'regoingdown, nice job on the 2290. I wouldn't worry about taking it again if I were you.. that's an amazing score. Focus on your SAT II's and your apps.. no need to waste another Saturday morning trying to bump your score up 10 points.

Serious Question!
I just got:
CR: 700
M: 780
W: 630
I usually get about the upper 600s on writing, this is my highest Math and my highest CR ever...

This was the first time I took the SAT, should I take it again knowing that it is quite possible that my CR and Math will go down?

hey... was the curve harsh?

The writing curve may have been a little bit but everything else seemed typical.

On the 18th we should try to compile the curve for the test.

ATM I believe it is something along these lines..

CR 800 800 780 760 750 740 730 720 710 700 690...
M 800 780 760 740 720 710 700
W depends on your MC/E combo so we will have to wait for the 18th.
