we have block scheduling... it's dumb.

the key is SOME people take 17 APs online.

Who cares unless they got 5's or some 4's on all of them?

ew ppl take APs online?

do they not have ANY social lives? at all?

I'm taking 9-10 by graduation, and I think that's a lot, and I'm proud.

i dunno "who cares" joe, you asked if taking 17APs was a hook... and i'm pretty sure its not.

well, would it be a hook if you got 5's on 17-20 APs?

No, You need 5's on 521 AP's for Harvard. That's their minimum. (Just Kidding :) ) Anyways, it might help, but you have to have finished them by the end of junior year, since colleges don't look at AP scores from senior year for admission. They're not going to say, "Sorry, we have to rescind your offer since you got 5's in Econ, Euro, English and Calc AB but a 4 in Enviro."

This is what it looks like atm. I'm still a bit hesitant overall with my class selection for next year though. I'm having trouble deciding what would be a challenging, yet manageable schedule.

Class of 2008(!)
Junior Year

-AP US History
-AP Psychology
-AP Biology
-Honors English 11
-Honors Trigonometry/Math Analysis (dunno if I should take honors...I don't particularly enjoy math)
-Spanish 3
-Yearbook

well, im changing schools next year so its not for sure yet but it looks like:

Class of 07

College Democracy
College English
German 1-2/3-4
Technical Writing
some fine arts class

getting 5's on 17 APs is a diff. story, that may be a hook (but probably not).

The truth is... if a 2400 on the SAT, and 3 800 on SAT2's are not a hook than this probably is not either.

No, that is just overpreparation and needless score-bagging for college, unless you are actually interested in all the subjects (which I highly doubt). The only colleges that would care are the exam-based schools outside the US (ie the Oxbridge system or Beijing University and the Tokyo Big Six).
And yes, many take APs online because they don't have them inside the walls of their own school.

Senior Year:

AP/IB HL Chemistry
AP/IB SL French
IB HL Mathematics/AP Calc BC
IB HL History of the Americas
IB HL English

Are you taking the APs and IBs at the same time? That is extremely difficult and redundant.

Yes, that's what our school does. And I believe I saw at least one other person on this thread doing the same thing. But as I said, it is what all students at my school do, and I don't think it's much more challenging than taking either one individually. Redundant, I might be willing to give you...I suppose it would be unfair of me to argue that it was equally challenging (and thus covering the same things) and not redundant (and thus covering different things). But before coming here, I always assumed all IB school functioned like this, not excluding AP entirely. Especially in sophomore (and freshman) year when one isn't taking official IB classes. But really, this year, I'm taking the first half of English and History, and well as SL Psych and Physics...so why not take the AP tests, if it only requires a little extra work?

No, I thought that IB and AP were two entirely different things and not offered in the same school together.
Alright, I can see your purpose at the end. It makes somewhat more sense.

It's cushy. I don't care. I'm not vying for a top spot in a top school any longer, and am just looking to break into the top ten of my high school before I graduate...because my school of choice is a pretty major academic safety...it's the music audition I need to worry about. Plus it's a large large large school, so I think if I pass the numbers test, I'll be okay. :P Sooo...
