Aside from the academics side of Irvine, how would you rate the fitness aspect, like is there a nice gym or basketball hoops??

Just curious, cause I havta get a good game of ballin before I hit the books.

I've been accepted, I'm coming down during spring break to check out the campus more in depth.

theres a 24 hour fitness right accross campus, thats all i know though..i dont know if theres a UCi gym thats available to students

the 24 hour fitness one loooks nice though, i havent been in it but ive been aroundit

for basketball, i dont know about that area but ther are some parks further away from the college wher u can get some intense games going on..but ther 15-20 minutes away...

There's the ARC where a lotta people ball. Also, at the Mesa Court bball courts too. On a normal night they're all pretty full, lots of people playing ball. The ARC (anteater recreation center) is a big gym built about 5 years ago I think so it's all pretty new...and of course it's free to all students.

One question:

Ranking-wise, I know UCI isn't as high up as other UCs, such as Berkeley/LA. However, if one were applying to grad school from UCI's CHP and Berkeley/LA's regular, how would they be compared? Would CHP have about the same prestige as Berkeley? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

Nice, seems like Irvine seems like a down to earth campus with a good amount of activities to participate in.

Can't wait to hit up the courts, and classrooms...

Busdrivin4life, i love your nick name. my team name for fantasy bball is normally bus drivers. maybe i'll ball with you next year when you come to irvine.
forsaken, i can not answer that question with personal experience or statistics. but, people that grad from irvine's chp do end up at a "good" grad school. it could be because they're good students to begin with. most people that get into irvine's chp also get into cal and ucla, which mean they chose to go to irvine. i don't know how grad school's admission will review the prestige factor, but i doubt it'll matter that much as long as you do well as a undergrad.

Can anyone point me to a nice gallery or pictures of the campus environment at UCI? I am trying to get a feel of the people, the buildings, the cleanliness, the classrooms, the non-academic parts of UCI.

How are the labs and classrooms of the ICS dept? Up-to-date hardware, LCDs, big rooms? I think I read that some of these classes are in "trailers" (not actual trailers, but temp. buildings).

How is the diversity at the school? Are there definitie majorities and minorities? Is it cliquey?

I have read some reviews (studentsreview.com), and they weren't that great... I don't know how much weight I should put in that - but they were mostly regarding how professors don't really pay too much attention to students, and that after graduation, the school doesn't do much for career placement or further involvement.

thanks+

the diversity (or lack of) composed mostly of asians and whites. but that's every UC. irvine has about 50% asian. i'm sure you can find stats online. profs are nice to me and they seem to care. it all depends on ones you get. go on rate my professor before picking your classes and you should be fine. i don't know the answers to your other questions, sorry.

how competitive is chemical engineering? i read on another thread that other students steal your books so you cant study, is that true?

leobag check out anteaterforum.com its a forum just for UCI

hey how is the partying scene at uci?

dude, i don't know where these stories of people stealing books come from. I was there for five years and never saw anything like that happen. And I was a bio major with all of the premeds, too.

which residential halls are better? middle earth or mesa court? it seems like there are so many buildings to choose from. which ones are nice/new? can you choose which hall you want to live in?

@x4bidnluvx: check out post #30

@dlo137: thanks for the link

I got into UCI as an undecided major. I now have decided that I want to go into engineering. Will it be difficult to change my major to engineering?

@Jun41: Let us know if these links help:
<a href="http://undergraduate.eng.uci.edu/handbook/degree/majorguidelines%5B/url%5D">http://undergraduate.eng.uci.edu/handbook/degree/majorguidelines</a>
<a href="http://www.reg.uci.edu/registrar/services/major.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.reg.uci.edu/registrar/services/major.html</a></p>

It would be my guess that if you are entering as a freshman you shouldn't have much of a problem. I think it is more of a hassle to change once you have put in some time toward a different major. The whole point of "undecided" is that you have not decided ;). Now, you will be decided :).

Hi,

I got into Electrical Engineering before I realized that I could have signed up for EECS. Will they allow me to just take the CS courses right away or do I have to wait to change majors?

Well I know this isn't an academic specific question but...what kind of internet connection do you guys get at UC Irvine..is it like a DS3 line (45 Megs) running throughout the school with wifi blanketing the campus or...?
