Post anything/everything you know about the PPE major. I honestly think it gives you a solid foundation and understanding in 3 areas and I also like how you specialize in one of the 3, but I’ve heard it’s known to be a ‘weak’ major. What do you think?

I think it has potential, but the major as stated just doesn't go in depth enough. You get a cursory knowledge of the 3, but a deep knowledge of none. I'd just follow your passion, perhaps double major in two.

if i had to double major, it'd be in philosophy and economics. that's why i was considering the PPE. thanks for your input though jCoveney.

can anybody else elaborate?

I would like for someone else to speak on this major as well, I'm very interested in it at the moment.

PPE is a common pre-law major. While you won't be getting a traditional econ job with it, it still provides you with a solid education. It is a lot of reading though, and I know at least 1 kid who dropped it for that reason.

why can't get you a traditional econ job with ppe?

Two reasons primarily...

1) Name: It doesn't say economics on your resume so you might be filtered out from the traditional analyst job that requires an econ/business background. These analyst positions tend to look for more quantitative type thinkers. This major is more for the qualitative thinker.

2) Coursework: Oftentimes, positions will require specific courses as pre-reqs to applying. One common example is econometrics. With a different curriculum, you simply won't be taking all the courses required of a typical econ major. And if you do decide to take those courses to try to compensate, that makes you an econ major.
