Ppl accepted into Cornell

the things taught at cornell summer college are no longer taught in cornell's b.arch program. no one makes cubes anymore haha. the first years this year even used sketchup and rhino for their projects

m24flo- when you say upgrade, are you saying buy a new macbook pro? i'd get a PC laptop instead. even though macbook pros can run windows, they're not as good running programs like autocad or rhino

m24flo, hi! and okay, good point. Some of the TA did say they liked hand drafting, but most of them weren't that great at explaining it which accounts for my doubts towards their skills at it. And for that one project that they had us draft, it was just about a free-for-all in my section anyways. As for computer-based drafting, sketchup was quite annoying for my project over the summer and rhino and autocad are a lot more powerful.

I knew the cubes aren't part of the program anymore, but what about the vessel project?

the stuff done during the summer are still of the same architectural logic because they're taught by the same professors. it's really good to learn about the stuff taught at summer college because you won't learn about this as much in b.arch

the TA's tend to be good at hand drawing because they are of a different generation. cornell only started implementing really digital based curriculum only like one or two years ago. cornell is definitely going under a whole change in its curriculum

Sashimi-- do people at cornell not hand draft at all anymore??

the trend now with the recent influx of new professors (a lot from AA) is that fewer and fewer studios use handdrafting as a tool. while there are still some studios that incorporate hand drafting, most studios rely on digital technology. one of the two new tenured professors that we got is even teaching java and c++ in his studio and drawing class as a way to teach us how to create our own tools with programming to produce architecture

everything (including drafting and model making) is done by hand the first year

^^ ha, i took drafting over art.. dumbest move i've ever made.. well close enough.. when you're putting together a portfolio.. probably why i got rejected by cornell... that and i stink..
