My daughter has some unofficial visits scheduled next week with some Ivy league and D III schools for volleyball. What are the rules on playing with or practicing with the team? One Ivy coach told her the team may have a practice the day we are scheduled to meet.
I have heard that recruits could have informal sessions with players but coaches couldn’t be present. I told her to ask the coach but any insight would be great.
I believe it is against the rules. My daughter went on several unofficial and 5 official track visits and only watched practice each time.
Pretty sure it’s verboten. If there is an official team practice, what you are doing is watching.
At Williams ten years ago, my daughter, then a junior, was allowed to participate in a ‘Captain’s practice’ – no coaches but she got to scrimmage (baskeball) with the team.
It is against the NCAA rules for a non rostered athlete to be practicing with the team during regular practice. However, on the weekends when they are just practicing by themselves without the coach, the prospective recruits may be allowed to participate.
Official practice definitely no. Unofficial practice it gets a bit more murky. Generally we have just watched for both, but I know that isn’t always the case. I would guess if they expect your D to participate they will let her know so she can bring workout clothes to change into.
Thanks for the responses. I will tell her to pack her knee pads and workout clothes just in case they want her to hit the ball around without the coaches present.
