For people who studied or are studying architecture at Pratt institute!
I am a high school senior in Taiwan and have been admitted to several B.Arch programs including Pratt. I am in the process of choosing where to go and want to ask some students from Pratt directly about the school environment and your overall experience.
So here are my questions.
Do you love Pratt based on your experience there for 5 years? What do love about Pratt most, faculty, facilities, or anything else? I read some people saying that Pratt emphasizes more art in architecture, and I really want to know what about the technology and science stuff that architecture students should learn a lot? Does Pratt also have strong enough courses for those subjects?
Also, do you think that studying architecture and design within NYC a big city surely a beneficial thing? I heard an architect say that in NYC, meeting and listening to some great master’s speech is as easy as drinking water. And that is so enchanting because I really love to go to museums, galleries, and go to some speeches, and receiving new information is of great significant for a design student.
But I also read some not so good feedback online saying that Pratt’s administration staff are not friendly and don’t care much about students’ career and money. Do you agree on this based on your study experience there?
I also notice that many professors at Pratt are part-time because they have their own corporations or business, does this offer Pratt’s students a strong tie with the real business world? But some people say that professors at Pratt are more mean and often don’t care about students’ feeling, do you think this is true or the professors are actually not so hard or they are doing this for students’ good? btw is it actually easier to find some good job opportunities in NYC after graduating from Pratt?
Pratt’s Rome program is also very attractive to me. I read some documents online and noticed that some courses and GPA 3.0 is required to be able to apply for Rome program. Is that hard to achieve, I mean if I work really hard, is achieving the GPA goal really hard? And is the program competitive? Are there a lot of people applying for it?
Sorry for so many questions at a time and thank you for reading!
