Hi I got accepted into Pratt Institute in Brooklyn around early January… Does anyone know when they send out financial aid and if their scholarships are mailed with the aid??
Hi @reggister97 my D has the same question about the financial aid award. She was admitted early action and filed FAFSA right after it became available.
Some Early Action admissions did include merit aid but maybe there are additional merit opportunities with the financial aid packet? That happened to us with another college - it was a pleasant surprise!
I suppose all questions will be answered once the aid packet arrives. Let it be soon, please!
Don’t merit offers usually come soon after admission?
@mom2collegekids I think that’s true for the most part, at least based on my D’s experience. The bulk of her merit aid did not require a separate application and she received notification in her admissions packet. In a few more cases she applied for particular awards or was doing activities which qualified her. These were also non-need based; however, they were more specialized (determined by major, by separate application, by membership in an honors society, etc.). And then I think for one state school the merit award was determined based on her mid-year transcripts. For all of these later awards, she was notified several weeks to several months AFTER being admitted (D applied Early Action or Priority for nearly everyone). I think Pratt, at the very least, does award some specialized scholarships around this time. D’s not expecting to qualify; however, it would be nice to have some finalized cost-of-attendance numbers by this point so we are eagerly awaiting that FA packet and the Net Cost of Attendance #. I heard that they were sent out at the end of March.
@reggister97, have you received anything yet?
We received ours the end of March. My daughter is graduating from Pratt this semester. It is rigorous and we are so pleased with her education in advertising. Great reputation. She will be staying in NYC so this schools reputation was very important. Good luck!
@contented thank you so much for your post and your endorsement of Pratt. My D was accepted to ComD (freshman) and is definitely drawn to the interdisciplinary nature of that program, the location and the campus community. May I ask what your daughter is doing upon graduation? Also, is it ok if I pm you with some additional questions?
