He remains in grave condition, per reports, but is hopefully improving.

Hope they catch this Euric Cain guy, and he is swiftly brought to justice.
Update: His condition is now listed as guarded. He has been lauded as a hero on the national news.

Wow that’s bad. I just saw the news reports on the incident IMO also he’s a hero. I’m wishing him the best.
Update- the suspect was arrested.
Great news! Thanks for the update!
Wow, amazing story. Hope the young man has a full recovery. Thankful too, for the jammed gun, and the arrest.
Some people spring into action. Some call 911. Some just drive away.
We should commend anyone who steps in to help. Without them, we have chaos. I hope I could be so brave.
Perhaps Good Samaritan type laws need to include, if you kill a Good Samaritan, you will be treated as if you killed a cop.
God protected him. I’m not sure I can deny that. Godspeed Mr. Gold!
Thought it is worth updating this situation. Peter Gold was released from the hospital a week ago and is apparently doing well.
The accused assailant, Euric Cain, has just been arraigned again, because charges were added where he has been accused of carjacking, kidnapping and raping a couple the day after he allegedly shot Gold. http://www.nola.com/crime/index.ssf/2015/12/euric_cain_accused_of_kidnappi.html Read the story only if you have a strong stomach. Obviously the evidence appears solid to the point of iron-clad, and if (I hate to have to use that word in this case) he is convicted I think it goes without saying he shouldn’t see the light of day again. MHO anyway. The thing I find nauseating is that he had $1 million bail, and now it is $7 million. I realize there is virtually no way he is getting out with those bail amounts, even if Louisiana allows 10% bond. But it sure seems like a case of remand, no bail to me. Maybe Louisiana law requires bail for anything short of murder charges.
