Pre Calc or Calc

precalc is not only trig. My precalc class did trig for only like 3 weeks.

wow.. you guys know how hard it is to go straight from alg II to Calc (AP)?

Precalc (in my school at least) is harder than AP Calc and most of the math you learn in this class is very important in calc. And how are you going to understand vectors, polar, trig, series (i know you learn this in alg II, but precalc goes in depth), parametric, FUNCTIONS, trig, etc.. without taking precalc? All you need for Calc AB is trig, but you are screwed for BC if you don't take precalc.

I am not saying it is impossible, but it will definitely be harder to grasp the concepts.

btw I think the only math class you can skip is geometry.

Oh and you don't really learn much about functions and graphs in alg and alg II, precalc has heavy emphasis on functions (limits, asymptotes, etc...) that you need for calc.

I did precalc (AlgebraII & Trig) in my soph. year, then took AB as a junior, and now I am taking BC.

Precalc is crucial for further advancement in math. You have to take precalc to survive in AP Calculus (whether it be AB or BC). Learning AlgebraII and Trig is the background knowledge you need to succeed in any math class after high school.

My classes:
Fresh - Advanced Geometry and Algebra II
Soph - Honors Algebra II and Trig
Junior - AP Calculus AB
Senior - AP Calculus BC (starts off where AB left off at)
there is also Honors Trig/Analysis for people who did AlgebraII before going to high school. This course is basically a Precalc class with Matrices etc. You can pass Calculus with Algebra II and Trig. If your school doesn't combine the two courses like mine (Honors Algebra II and Trig) you might only reach AP Calculus AB - which isn't bad at all.
