^ D stands for daughter...
Yes! Tell her Ariel S says hello!

My D's school does a month-long intersession program twice a year. She's interested in getting an internship (unpaid) at a regional theater or college theater program for the May intersession to be a gopher and learn a bit. Does anyone have suggestions about places to contact?

Thanks, Ariel, I'll tell her! Her summer looks like YCTC again, and UMinn's Stage Elements.

Our son looked at several programs in the states (Brown, CMU, NC) and they all seemed a lot like camp. We looked at the Royal Academy for Dramatic ARts in London and they have a variety of options. One is a series of one-week programs for high schoolers---musical theater, shakespeare, etc.---but they will also take experienced younger actors into their regular summer school. No supervision, no meals; the student has to do all that on his own, but they told us it gives a student a real idea of what a conservatory program is all about.

One downside, there are people of all ages enrolled; lots of students don't start at RADA until well into their 20's. We are seriously considering the regular summer classes for our son. ... has anyone here been there? They have a limited number of dorm rooms at Astor College nearby, within walking distance, but they are "self-catering," i.e. no cafeteria plan!

Hey, I was just wondering if anyone has anymore information about RADA summer acting youth and all ages program? I’m interested to hear your experience!
Thanks

I can’t speak for the other programs skipsmom mentions but CMU summer was not like a summer camp. I feel pretty comfortable making that statement as my daughter has experienced Stella Adler’s 5 week teen conservatory, Frenchwoods, CMU summer and now first semester at UNCSA. Stella Adler and Fenchwoods were great experiences so I’m not putting either of them down but CMU was the closest to replicating life of a BFA program. Of course, it is not as intensive as being in a BFA program and you have at least some number in these programs who aren’t as serious as others but the program does try to replicate what a BFA program feels like and at least some of the faculty are the regular full time faculty.

HSN - my daughter has two friends who attended CMU’s program. Her girlfriend when the summer of 12’ - felt it was “cult like”. She is very talented but didn’t get accepted when she applied and audition. Another friend (Andrew) attended most likely with your daughter this past summer - he is amazingly talented. But he did Acting I believe not MT. It will be interesting to see where he gets accepted. Many people think attending the college theatre summer program helps you get in but it seems that doesn’t seem to be the case. CMU is the probably the most competitive of all the BFA’s in the country.
