Does attending the pre-college summer program increase your chances of getting in for undergrad?

i went, got a 4.0, gave me a much easier time in writing my essay, shows interest, was fun, but ultimately, no, it will not give you that extra boost/edge you're looking for, esp if you get below a 3.7 cumulative for that summer. please don't get the impression that getting into this is a good sign that you will get into the real deal because it isn't.

they have empty classrooms during the summer with thousands of high school students dying to pay thousands to take some classes taught by TAs and adjuncts, total money machine. i thought it was worth it, but to answer your question directly, no. good experience, though.

I don't think the precollege gives out grades? For my seminar they just sent out evals. from my instructors. I would say I'm just the average high school student, but nowhere Harvard/Yale/Columbia material, yet I seemed to stand out academically from my seminarmates (then again, it might have something to do with them being mostly Turkish, and most of them didn't want to study).

One of my prof wrote a great recc though (my counselor said it sounded as if I walked on water), and I sent it to some of my reach schools along with some other supplements. I suppose if you are good with making good impression and a good short-term performer, it might be a good thing to consider.

It is a lovely opportunity for those who would like to do an academic program like it during the summer and get to know the city, since NYU's precollege program doesn't offer housing.
