What is considered a "pre-med" major?

unless you are specifically fond of poli sci, i wouldn't major in it just because people say it's an easy major.

I agree with this. There are FAR easier majors at Berkeley. I'm not going to name them, but they have been discussed before - majors where you really can get very good grades for doing very little work and often times while hardly even showing up.

sakky, which easy majors would these be?

Great ... another GPA whore.

sakky, please name them.

Just search back through the old threads, you will see them discussed in detail.

I don't know, sakky, you always allude to these enigmatic threads and majors, but never by name. You let other people bring them up or something. Here, I'll be your partial tool this time. American Studies. Why don't you just name a list sometime so that people know what you're talking about (instead of being pseudo-mysterious and elusive)?

I think it's far more credible when people who are themselves in the major concede that it is easy.

Look, what I am proposing is not that hard. Every once in a while, a post will come up where people will talk about the easy majors at Berkeley. If you pay attention, you will see them. This is not a 'mystery'.

So, bottom line, do you think a pre-med is better going to UCI or Berk? Is the lower GPA @ Berk worth the prestige of the school? I have about two weeks to make mmy decision and i am totally undecided.

Thanks in advance

The presumption is that you really will get a lower GPA at Berkeley. This is unclear to me. In fact, a case could be made that you might actually get a lower GPA at UCI. Why? Sociology. The fact is, human beings are social creatures and tend to copy what they see around them. When you see other people around you studying hard, you will tend to want to study hard. When you see other people lounging around and being lazy, you will tend to be lazy.

Bottom line - it's not clear to me where you will get the higher GPA. Hence, when it comes to picking between the two, I would give the edge to Berkeley.

Thanks for the response Sakky.

Did you go to Berkeley?

Sakky, also, if the the more laid back atmosphere at UCI would not have an effect on me, would you still suggest Berkeley? Im almost positive that the students at UCI wouldn't not affect my ultimate goal of going to med school.

I would still suggest Berkeley (but less strongly) even if you really are sure that a laid back atmosphere won't affect you. Why? Because there are plenty of people who come into college intending to do premed and then ultimately decide not to, either because they find something else that they like better, or they do poorly in the premed classes such that they know that they can't get in anywhere. This can happen whether you go to Berkeley or UCI. So if this happens, then at least you will have a better branded degree coming out of Berkeley than UCI with which you can probably get a better job.

The atmosphere at Irvine sucks so bad compared to Berkeley! Commuter school, no diversity. Go to UCSB or UCSC instead of UCI, if you must go to UCI.
