So I’m very interested in attending Barnard but I was wondering if the science program there is strong or if I’d be better off somewhere else. I like everything I’ve heard about the school and I’m also interested in theater tech so it would probably be a good place for that but I want to be a doctor and need a good foundation in the sciences…

My d is a neuroscience major and did consider pre-med but decided that was not her choice. One of her suitemates is pre-med. Obviously, I guess, we think she is getting a very strong education. They both prefer Barnard's science classes to Columbia's, and my d received a very competitive summer research position for which many applications were received (over 500, I believe, for 25 slots) from all over the country.

I do not think you would have any difficulty at all in getting a "good foundation" for sciences.

The sciences are very well taught at Barnard. Premed is a popular emphasis at both Columbia and Barnard. Consequently making top grades is very demanding in terms of time, but can be done. Paul Hertz is a great teacher, has edited the textbook and is a very tough but fair grader.
