Hello All,

I earned my BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering, and will be earning my PhD in the same within a year or so. I know this sounds crazy, but I'd like to go to med school afterwards.

The problem is: as an EE, my undergraduate degree program could not fit in all the necessary pre-med courses. I took two semesters of physics and one semester of chemistry, but I'm missing a semester of chemistry, two semesters of biology, and two semesters of organic chemistry.

Furthermore, my graduate engineering research funding will obviously not pay for me to take those kinds of courses, and I cannot afford to take all the courses I need at the same institution I am earning my PhD. However, I CAN afford to take all the courses I need at a nearby state community college.

I'm sure I can perform strongly on the MCAT once I've taken courses in advanced chemistry, organic chemistry, and biology; as a baseline, I took a practice MCAT without these courses and without any studying/preparation and got a 25.

My question is: even with strong undergraduate and graduate GPAs in a rigorous major, several internships in industry and a national laboratory, a couple of engineering profession-related volunteer activities, and (likely) a strong MCAT score, will I still have a major problem with med school admissions due to the fact that I took most of my basic pre-med type courses at a CC instead of as part of my undergrad degree?

Thanks!
