Hi guys I’m a newly admitted international freshman to UCSD. My major is Human Biology, Muir College. I plan on going to med school.
- Is it difficult to graduate UCSD in 4 years as a pre med?
- How difficult is it to get research on campus?
- How difficult is it to get GPA 3.7+ ?
I’m also thinking about UW, Brandeis, and Rochester. Tuition is a factor but the potential of getting into med school is my biggest consideration.
Thank you!
^I’ve been having the exact same questions and problems deciding between UCSD (admitted into General Biology at Muir) and Rochester. Both seem like fabulous programs (although very different climates) but I don’t know how manageable it will be to get a high GPA AND get out in time in a UC (although their bio program seems to try to get students out in four years)
Tuition is a big factor as well though, even if I end up doing six years at UCSD, it’s cheaper than 4 at Rochester WITH a Dean’s scholarship, but if it’s detrimental to the chance to go to med school (40% acceptance last I heard), I’ll stick with Rochester.
Congrats on Muir btw ^~^ I hope we meet up if we both decide to go with UCSD.
Congrats on getting into the two schools! Oh wow I got the Dean’s scholarship too! I later learned that students who don’t graduate in 4 years are mostly students who change their majors in college or double major…
I think the chance to go to med school from UCSD is around 35% - you can check it on their career center page. What do you know about the chance to to go med school from Rochester and where can you find the stats?
Thanks a lot and I hope we meet up too
Just SIR-ed to UCSD today!
What finally decided it for me was the multitude of research opportunities RIGHT NEXT to campus.
And they’re working really hard to get bio majors out in 4 years (I’m planning to double major so it may be quite fun ;~: )
I don’t know much about the actual chances of med school for Rochester, cause most private schools discourage students with low MCATs from applying so that they can keep their rankings high.
