pre-med maybe

If you go into your freshman year undeclared (like me), is it impossible to choose pre-med later on, maybe by second quarter (or if worst comes to worst, by sophomore year), and still graduate in 4 years?

Hmm... I think so. I finished my pre-med requirements in just over 2 years (that includes the 4 chem lectures, 2 chem labs, 3 bio core classes, 3 physics lectures, 2 physics labs, 2 math lectures). There might be a sprinkling of other classes I didn't mention that are specific to certain schools, such as biochemistry. English is also required, but PWR and IHUM usually cover that and everyone has to do it anyways. And of course, it's not like I took ONLY pre-med requirements for the full 2 years; I took other courses in there as well because they seemed interesting to me. Therefore, I think deciding to be pre-med in your sophomore year is not a big problem... it would be good to ask a pre-med advisor. You can email Ruby Mason earsm@stanford.edu who is very helpful and will respond quickly.

So, you don't have to be pre-med from the second you walk onto Stanford's campus. =] I would say that deciding to be pre-med at the beginning of the junior year or later is really stretching it, UNLESS you were already a bio major or something anyways and you had finished many prerequisites just because of the major. Hope that is reassuring and answers your question!
