I have been looking at the pre med requirements, and I have completed some of the courses, but at community college. I am transferring to UNC to finish my bachelors and my pre med courses. I spent the last two years at community college because for the last 4 years I was being treated for cancer and couldn't go full time to a regular school. Someone told me that med schools won't accept required courses completed at community college. My question is should I retake them at UNC or will I be fine?

Thanks in advance

You should check with individual medical schools to clarify 100% on this, but normally community college courses would only be an issue if you took them WHILE enrolled concurrently in a 4 year university.

Because you had malignant illness, and had no way of attending a 4-year university at the time, I would be shocked if any medical school wouldn’t accept CC courses in this circumstance.

There are a handful of medical schools that will not accept community college credits no matter the circumstance. (JHU, EVMS, Creighton, off the top of my head). You will need to check the individual requirements for each school before you apply.

Most med schools will want to see some higher level coursework done at a 4 year in bio & chem to confirm your ability to perform well against the stronger competition at a 4 year college.

Ask adcoms of Med. Schools that you are planning to apply. D. asked them about her AP credits and got responses very quickly and did not need to semi-guess. People here have different experiences. The answers from adcoms will definitely be much more reliable. Also, keep in mind that Med. Schools requirements are changing. The good pre-med advisory at UG will inform you about schools on your list. It also happened to my D. One of her Med. Schools added 2 requirements AFTER D. has applied and registered for fall semester of senior year. Her pre-med advisor has warned her about it and she had anough time to act, which included completely changing her reqistrations and dropping one of her minors.
It is extremely important to seek infornation in proper places.

Thanks for the replies, I saw that JHU does accept cc credits. The only courses that meet the requirements are one of my chemistry courses, my year of english credits and a statistics class. Everything else I will be take at UNC or UofM. I will be sure to contact my pre med advisor once I’m assigned one and I’ll contact the individual schools about the cc credits. Thanks
