It would most likely be easier to maintain a high GPA at Davis than at Cal. In terms of research opportunities, I'd say that's overwhelmingly a function of how good you get along with your professors, and how good you are at taking the initiative.

And trust me, if you're applying to med school, you aren't going to get many sympathy points simply because you went to a difficult school. The mind set is, if you opt for a school that's competitive by nature, you believe you're up to the challenge.

there's much more to college than getting into med school. davis is a boring place - either extremely hot or extremely cold - and has pigs and cows. why would you want to go there?

You're on your on for strong research and superb MCAT scores. For GPA, definitely easier at Davis and probably a better fit if you know you want become a doctor. However, would you want to sacrifice a better all-around education for something you might not even do?

I'm not sure about Davis being a boring place, but I agree there's much more to college than getting into medical school. You should use college as an opportunity to study something that truly interests you. If that happens to prepare you for the MCAT and meet medical school requirements, cool. If not, you can always grab the required classes.

Medical schools love applicants with degrees in non-medical related areas.
