Pre Med vs. Biology

I'm not sure which one to choose :|
HC is one of the non-pharmacy schools I applied to and I'm not sure which major/program to decide ... I need to mail this verification form soon.

Pros and cons? Any comments?
Pharmacy is the main career I was planning to follow, but I heard that HC had great biology and pre-med programs so I just thought, eh what the heck. I'll apply and see what happens. I'm just not sure what to do. Help?

Okay, maybe this was a dumb question. I should’ve mentioned that I’m not planning to work as a doctor … As in, I don’t want to perform surgeries … I guess biology, right?

It’s my understanding that the only reason they ask this question on the verification form is because the pre-med track is more competitive for admission than the general pool (primarily because so many students are trying to get into it). So, if you aren’t applying into a grad program that requires a pre-med track (you would know better than I would about pharmocology programs), then don’t pick that as it seems it would lessen your chances for admission. I guess that means bio. But, I don’t think it would hurt to call admissions today and clarify with them what your ultimate interests are and what you should put down on the form.

I don’t know what happens to students that change their minds and want to do a pre-med track and then have to jump through more hoops once they are students. That is something to consider also.

I talked to my Dad about the situation and he said I should go with pre-med and I might be leaning towards that too since I’m sure pharmacy and pre-med take similar classes to meet the requirements. But maybe I could check off both biology and Pre Med … hmm.

This explains a lot for the Bio major:
[Biology Major Courses and Requirements](http://academics.holycross.edu/biology/curriculum/major)

Pre-med is not a major at Holy Cross. Pre-med is a concentration. Biology is a major, however. You could do Bio/Pre-med. So your major would be biology, but you’re in the pre-med track. That’s what some people do.

Missed the part about you not wanting to be a doctor. You could still be a Bio major and not be in the pre-med program.

This was back in January and I’m a freshmen here now as a biology/pre-med major as a matter of fact  Lol, but thanks though!
