Okay so i got my job lined up for next year with my boss. Starting in september when i start Penn pre-med, I will be working 15 hrs/wk making $15/hr. Now, will this be manageable? Will i have time to study/volunteer/research/party? What do some of your schedules look like? Is this job a good idea?

Depends. The number of hours should be manageable as long as they are available at a time that works well with your school schedule. My daughter started off working an outside job for about the same number of hours but had to quit it because the arrangement of the hours made life very difficult and stressful for her. For instance she had work tuesday afternoon/evening and wednesday morning. She also had classes wednesday afternoon and a 3 hour lab wednesday evening. Her tuesday/thursday classes often had assignments given on tuesday that were due thursday - it was really hard for her to get them done - or done well anyway - by thursday. Plus she found she was having to organize her class schedule round her work schedule (hence the evening lab).

She ended up quiting the outside job and getting a campus job - worked out a lot better for her as they work the job round the school schedule rather than vice versa - and she did not have to travel to the job and back (or find parking on campus mid day which was often difficult). Less $$s - but less stress and better for her grades. And of course grades are very important for med school hopefuls (and in my daughters case for keeping her scholarships which are worth a lot more than what she could earn in the job).
