Pre-Professional focused colleges.

Hello everyone, I am looking for info on colleges that are more Pre-Professional focused. I want to major in Finance and am looking for a school that would fit my pre-professional interests. I am not too fond of Liberal Arts curriculums that seem to focus more on Arts and Humanities that don’t relate to your major. I am looking for a business focused school that will get me ready for the workforce.

I need to be in a fairly large city with modern amenities. Northeast, Midwest and large Southern cities are all good. West Coast is too far from home.

For business, there are colleges like Babson and Bentley that are focused on business. Of course, being a business major at any college is a pre-professional choice, so you do not necessarily have to go to a business focused college. But a business major will typically have to take some liberal arts general education courses beyond those required for the major.

Colleges where co-ops are an important part of the curriculum (e.g. Cincinnati, Drexel, Northeastern) are likely to have a more pre-professional flavor than other colleges, even for the same major.

Some colleges without a business major do have courses like accounting and managerial economics in their economics departments, in order to offer a way for students to tailor an economics major to be somewhat like a business major in some areas.

S20 has similar sentiment. He applied to Georgia Tech, Northeastern and Drexel because of the Co-ops. Also, public schools typically give more allowance for AP credits (not always). If you bring enough AP credits and/or take a few classes over the summer at a CC they’re more likely to transfer credits. In theory, you could graduate in 3 years.

I really liked Northeastern. What’s not to like about Boston. However, the acceptance rate is very low. S20 was deferred so merit wasn’t likely. He withdrew his app. We liked Drexel when we visited. It has a mixed reputation but we liked the business school and were impressed with the Co-op and honors programs. He received decent merit but withdrew after he didn’t get into honors. He was accepted into Georgia Tech today so it’s on his short list.
