Pre-vet and double major...a bad idea

Would doble majoring while also taking vet prerequisite classes be self destructive?

It depends upon the double major requirements and the GPA in those classes. While vet school looks at total GPA, they have parameters for GPA in the hard sciences. My DD doubled in marine science and math and a minor in visual art. Different vet schools had different requirements for the minimum GPA in the sciences.

Grades are a key factor in vet school admissions. You want to make sure you can do this and maintain a high GPA. Some double majors are easier to do this in than others. You need to make sure you are getting all the pre-reqs that you need within your schedule without killing yourself. You don’t want to start vet school burned out. My son’s gf was double majoring in biology and math and is pre-med. She realized she would need 21 hours a semester and still need to be doing research and shadowing so backed off of the math major. It is all based on the individual and the coursework.

If you can do well on both majors, absolutely! It would definitely make you stand out of the crowd. But if it’s too much of a burden for you academically, I would think otherwise
