I am trying to apply to schools with interesting research programmes in biochemistry, biology / population genetics or cellular biology. I'm a fourth year -- my GPA is kind of low (~3.2) which could possibly be raised this year, but I will have 190+ credits by the time I graduate, and will have a BS in biochemistry, BA in physics and a minor in biology from the University of Virginia (I could get another BA if not for the fact that my school doesn't allow triple majors). I am interested in scientific research from food and flavors (food programmes I think are less selective?) to cellular imaging and biology.

I already have a safety in the Department of Energy / ISU in Ames Iowa where I did an internship with single-particle tracking of gold nanoprobes in cells, as possible "dummy probes" to model stealth HIV/retroviral transport between cells. The PI encouraged me to apply there for grad school, and while the research is interesting however I also want to look at other schools because Ames (having been there) isn't exactly my idea of fun, especially without a car.

My GRE ranges (preliminary) are Verbal: 680-780 Quantitative: 750-800. I don't know what my writing will be, but it could be 4 to 5.5. 6 if I'm lucky. (I normally write better but I blanked out for one part of the essay for ten minutes. I could retake it.) I will take the subject tests later this year. Please help! Thanks
