Premed at Dartmouth

Hey everybody,

I'm really excited about being accepted - however, I've heard from some friends who are currently attending Ivies that it's almost impossible to get a high GPA. As I'm planning on applying to med school after my undergrad, I'm still a little apprehensive about going because I'm scared going to a prestigious college will jeopardize my chances of getting in (I heard most med schools require a 3.7 GPA). If any of the current students (or anyone else) have any feedback, it would be much appreciated. THanks!

two words...grade inflation

Yeah the Ivies have notorious inflation.

The average GPA of Dartmouth students accepted to some medical school was something like 3.54 for 2004. The average GPA of Dartmouth students accepted to no medical school was like 3.51 for 2004. Hope that helps.

do you think there is greater grade inflation at stanford or dartmouth?

I'd say Stanford.

At Dartmouth, your transcript lists the median grade in each class along with your grade, so grad schools will see what your grade means.

stanford by a long shot.

what percentage of premeds get into med school at dartmouth?

I would like to know this ^ for sure as well. I have heard everything ranging from 70-85%.
