<p>Where you spend a year at college before you reapply is not as important as what you take while you are there.</p>
<p>If you are not appointed, even enrolling at a local community college can be a “good strategy” as long as you take “swab-level” courses and excel in them: Calculus, Physics, Chemistry.</p>
<p>However, enrolling and graduating from a maritime college is another way to achieve the goal of becoming a Coast Guard Officer, through the the Direct Commission Maritime Academy Graduate Program – no boot camp, no OCS.</p>
