Prep School and Ivies (or top LACs)

Dont be insulted

but you are a freshman–

go study,
enjoy your sport
hang with friends
and stop being here on cc from am to pm worrying about being on a coaches radar in you jr yr…

As far as a tranfer goes–are you parents happy with a transfer and willing to foot the bill? Is a $20-$25k a yr school/fees/athletics doable? You are to go to college as a studnet not for athletics…athletics should be the icing not the driving force imho

Otherwise go for val at your school and be a standout where you are. Dont make it more complicated than it needs to be.

FogFog,

As for prep school, the only way I could go is if I got a full ride / only having to pay 10%.

I’m just wondering if my skills will improve more at a prep school rather than my current high school. Although my current school is very “smart” we also have a great amount of “challenged or not too smart” students who unfortunately play for the basketball team. They are nothing but trouble, and the coach wont do anything about them. Sure they have some skill, but there going no where in life, and they are the most uncoachable kids around (mutter stuff under their breath literally after everything the coach says). They put everyone else on the team down (yet one of them is one of our team captains, don’t ask me why), and they think that they are the team. They go around like they’re king of the hill. I just don’t want to be on this team with these kids because first off, they start every game even though there not that good; they do so because the coach is afraid of the consequences of them not playing (i.e they’ll quit). He also doesn’t give anyone else a chance (i.e me and my other teammates who work their butts off). What do you think I should do in this situation? Don’t get me wrong, there are things about my school that I love, but these kids really are putting me down, and making me second-guess my current placement.

Any thoughts???

I say bloom where you’re planted. If you become the best player, the coach will play you.

thanks for the advice riverrunner.

You really need to by playing more than just high school basketball if you want to play in college. Are you with a travel or AAU team?

Yes, I’m with 2 AAU teams, and a house team for the summer / spring team (either practice or game everyday of the week, doubling up on weekends).

anyone else have any thoughts???

any would be greatly appreciated.

Look up the different prep schools (go to Boarding School Review). Contact the basketball coaches (call them) and speak directly with them. Tell them exactly what you are looking for. Get together some game tape of yourself. Have your club coach write a recommendation. Send these to coaches at the schools you are interested in. If they are interested, visit the school with your parents. on varsity, they will most likely want you to repeat that sophomore year.

This year - focus on becoming the best basketball player and student you can be. Practice the SSAT. Be involved in leadership/community service activities. Be an all-around good kid who your teachers/coaches love. Apply to schools in the fall of your sophomore year.

Okay, thanks!
