Prep Schools In The News & Media

Agreed. The school itself is not going anywhere.

7% boarding…

How long has it been that low?

73 students is one grade

Thank you for posting about the new MA boarding school, I looked into it and sent in an application (it is on SSAO common app so was just a click of button to apply) and spoke to them, what an interesting program. They still have FA available as well for anyone else on WLs for fall.

It’s not the total number that’s an issue.

With only 7% boarding, that means that over 90% of the student body isn’t boarding;
the campus could be like a ghost town on weekends.

Although not ABOUT BS, this news is sure to brighten someone’s day.

I know the Head of School*, he was at Hotchkiss before becoming Head at a NJ school. He is a very nice guy.

Interesting article about the culture wars at an L.A. prep school. Same issues a lot of schools are dealing with.

It seems like everyone is struggling with DEI issues. Despite good intentions change almost always requires navigation through messy and bumpy roads. I agree that much progress is needed in this area, but I think schools are too often being reactive taking a “whatever you say” position and not really being thoughtful about the process or its goals.

@Golfgr8 I clicked on your Putney School story link, and it brings one to such a beautiful picture of the place. I want to go there!

I can hear it now-- “wait. You’re sending your kid to go live in a BARN???”

Yes. Yes, I did.

(Just not at Putney.)

That’s a very odd list. Their definition of “influential” seems heavily weighted towards celebrity rather than other contributions (such as scientific discoveries, etc.)

I don’t know about that. It’s a very interesting list, IMHO. I can think of several schools known for having many celebrity alumni but that are not on the list. (Choate comes to mind.) I also see several schools I know to be highly impactful but that never make other “top” lists of schools, such as St. Ignatius in Cleveland.
