For D1, once we knew where she was going in May 2010, in June 2010, I was able to purchase a tuition certificate from the Private 529 (then it was the Independent 529), where I paid a year of tuition for her college at a discount to the 2009-2010 rate to be applied for a year of tuition in 2013-2014, her senior year. That seemed then and now like a good idea since the member colleges agreed to accept the certificate, and worst case if she didn't attend a member college senior year, I couldn't lose more than 2% per year assuming that Oppenheimer stayed out of bankruptcy. I still anticipate using that for her senior year next fall.

For the curious, the website for this plan is www.privatecollege529.com

D2 was accepted ED to a private school that is not a member and I was looking for other good prepaid deals to hedge against tuition inflation.

I've looked at CollegeSavingsBank.com but don't find it attractive.

Anybody know of other deals like private 529? We are Massachusetts Residents.
