Preparing

Okay, so i've read all the guides on this site. But one thing about them bothers me. Most of the people who got 2400's or just mega high scores had been studying since the 8th grade.

I'm a junior who will take the next SAT in May. I have just a few months.

My first SAT score was a 1580
M: 430
CR: 620
w:530

I do not own the SAT blue book. My parents decided to buy me a different one, It has practice tests and whatnot. So i'm using them to study.

But my issue is, is it possible to get a 2200 or 2300 in this amount of time?
How would I do that? I have been trying really hard to study but math is freakishly hard for me to do. CR and W I can bring up pretty well and I know that.

My first scores were from my first time doing the test and without any former studying.

Does anybody have any advice?
I really need a good score and I need help figuring out how to do it.

It seems like all the help on here is for CR and W. Math is my weakest point and if anybody has any pointers that would be great.

^___^
Thanks

I see that you don’t have the blue book, but if you have the chance, try to borrow it from your local library at least or try to buy it. You can get it for about 10 bucks on ebay, maybe even less.

I got a 2360 from 2-3 months of studying starting in august of my junior year. Math was my strongest point. I really struggled with CR so I might not be able to help you as much in math since it was natural for me, but I can offer a few tips for the section. First of all, I don’t recommend taking a whole SAT test in one sitting. I recommend attacking it in parts; I always took 1-2 sections a day and really tried to discover why the correct answers were correct before just looking up the official Blue Book explanations. For math, specifically, I would recommend solving those problems, then going back to the ones you missed and trying to resolve it for the correct answer. You must understand why it is correct before you move on to more practice. Math is just going to require a lot of problem-solving and conceptual understanding for you to get a very high score. Practice will always help in any of these sections, no matter if you feel that it isn’t helping you to improve. I was stuck at the low 700s for CR for a few weeks and then all that practice and review suddenly clicked and I shot up to 800 (although this is probably not the conventional case). Keep on practicing the math sections.

You definitely don’t need to have studied since middle school to get a good score on the SAT. You’ll definitely improve a lot, but the 700 point jump you’re looking for is unlikely.

What level of math are you learning in school right now? The SAT tests algebra 1 and a few key postulates from geometry. You’ll probably have a hard time boosting your score if you’re not familiar with basic algebra.

^^
Thanks I think i’ll use that idea.

I’m taking an advance IB math class. I’ve taken Algebra and Geometry. Right now now i’m doing calc and stuff like that.
