I just applied ED to Bowdoin. Not that I regret it, I like Bowdoin soooo much for lots of good reasons, but everyone seems to be telling me that Bowdoin is extremely preppy. My sister, who goes to Bates, said that “it just seems like everyone dresses up all the time” like they are trying to impress something. I’ve heard similar things from other people, referring to it as a bad thing. I would say that I am more preppy than my sister, I am into sports a bit and stuff, but overall am more comfortable in a laid back environment. Is it true? Is Bowdoin one of the most preppy schools in in New England? Do you find it takes away from your experience, adds to it?

well...when i went to visit bowdoin, the students were well dressed...not necessarily dressed to impress but i mean no one walked around in their pajamas or anything. it seemed like a typical new england style: LLbean/north face/patagonia...more outdorsy than preppy---like no popped collars, well not many any way.

yeah bowdoin is major preppy
buti like it =D

but i also like to change into my sean john now and then and feel a lil ghettoish u know

esp when im dancing.
sometimes if u wanna keep up an image, it could cramp ur style

but expect to be wearing lots of northface/patagonia
they have this nice Abercrombie in freeport too where i get all my preppy clothes at 30% of retail price... (niiiiice)

You can wear whatever you want.

Sweatpants and sweatshirts your thing? there are others

Pink shirts on guys? definitely legal.

do what you want and pay no attention to anyone who says anything and you'll be accepted quickly.

It's partially a matter of perception. We thought Bates was rather preppy and Bowdoin didn't strike us in the same way. BUT we were at Bates during the Summit, so people were more dressed up than usual.

Thanks for your replies. I was just curious.
