Prescreening Tape Questions

I was wondering if I could do 2 recording sessions for my prescreen DVD. I'm not editing anything, I just want to do 2 individual recording sessions on 2 different days in order to see which one I could use. Is this okay? Or is this looked down upon?

You can do as many takes on as many days as you like (and can afford).

Agreed, do as many takes as you want. I am certain that most serious students do at least two recordings of each piece. The schools will not know how many recording sessions you have done, and I think that only a rare musician on a good day would be satisfied with their first takes. The schools wants you to submit your best takes.

Many will advise you when doing videorecordings to wear the same clothes each time, which may be a good idea, but I don’t think it is necessary. My son’s videorecordings were made in conspicuously different locations (unaccompanied stuff–Bach and Paganini–in a church and the accompanied stuff–concerto etc.–in a large living room) and he passed the prescreens everywhere (Colburn, Juilliard, NEC etc.).
