Presidential candidates' positions on education help?

^ I agree with you. But, you have to realize that conservatives desire limited government. So, they have different priorities, and education is supposed to be a local issue handled by the states. Republicans would support federal tax credits for lowering college costs.

The Dems have the mentality that Americans are either stupid or victims, and therefore, need to have government looking out for everyone.

I know I'm going to get flamed for this...it's just my opinion.

Well, a lot of Americans are stupid or victims, but they are still humans and citizens and thus deserve help.

I would think someone like you, who clearly has a degree from a prestigious university, would appreciate your good fortune and realize that not everyone has the talent/money/parents/financial wherewithall that you might have in order to get to a position where you and most other people on this board find themselves.

^^ I think he does realize that. I agree with what he says -- it's true in essentials -- but I don't think the latter is bad at all.

Then again, UCBChemEGrad might be a neo-con Republican in disguise. : O

(... nah, he's a Cal grad. =p)

Haha! Yes, I do realize that. I guess I'm just less of a bleeding heart.
Definitely not a neo-conservative Rebublican...registered Republican for sure, but with an independent streak.

bumping for super tuesday, and D wanted to know candidates positions. so I'll print this thread.

(how do you do quotes on cc?)

If a candidate believed this, it would be nice if he or she would insert it as a specific proposal in their position, and not let us assume it. 'Less gov't' is a very vague position. *Where *do we cut (priorities) is the key issue of leadership.

quote

To quote, do the following:

Type: quote*
without the asterisk and it becomes:
quote
Or, type: *quote=joecollegedad
again without the asterisk and it becomes:
quote=joecollegedad
End of lesson...;)

Nah, it's not a vague position - it's a mindset. ;)

I agree with you that if they have a specific position, they should include it in their platform. For Republicans though, education is not seen as a top federal issue...rightly, or wrongly.

Republicans should cut out the huge waste in the the oversight of social programs. Bush failed to do this big time, but Dems want to expand it further (i.e. universal health care).

Don't forget the nation building exercise in the Iraq. this is a Republican initiative.

But Republican Ron Paul (more 'classicly Republican'), says Iraq was, and is, a total misadventure and a complete misspending of USA's resources.

Thus, not all Republicans are the same, despite being members of that group.
