Presidential Scholar Candidate important?

It only counts CR+M, not Writing. I must have 1600 in CR+M. By the way, my kid who has 2400 decided not to apply. Good luck on everybody who invited to apply as PS candidates.

So many applications, so little time.

DD received a notice today that she is a Presidential Scholar Candidate.
It is not something we knew about or applied for, it just showed up.
Is this worth emailing an update to the schools where she has applications outstanding? I am sure it is not a huge deal, but it does seem like a plus.

^^
My S went through this process in the Fall. He was nominated as a Candidate by the school principal. He was then given a link to a website where he had to fill out an application as well as answer about three essay questions. It then went onto a state review committee and they notify you if you moved on in the competition. My S did not so he received a letter in the mail telling him that.

I don’t understand how you could not know about this as there is an application process to go through unless there are two “Presidential” type Scholar programs?

^AnnikaH, There are many scholarships with ‘Presidential’ in the name.

The one being discussed in this thread is not the same as the one that your S applied to, selections are made based on SAT scores, not principal nominations. If you look at the link in post #8 (sorry, no post numbers yet in the updated format), candidates were just notified in Jan, this is the first acknowledgement that they got, and now they apply for the Scholar designation if they choose to.

This is the second instance of confusion about which scholarship this is, the OP has not responded so I think they got their answer, and it’s getting late in the application season, so closing this thread.
